THE BEST LIVE MUSIC IN NEW ORLEANS
“New Orleans is a music culture town,” says Revivalists frontman David Shaw. “It’s not a music business town.” What he means is that creativity and connection tend to grow organically—or at least that’s how it happened for the Revivalists when the band formed more than a dozen years ago. - Dacey Orr Sivewright

WHY TACIT KNOWLEDGE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN DELIBERATE PRACTICE
Tacit knowledge is knowledge that cannot be captured through words alone.
Think about riding a bicycle. Riding a bicycle is impossible to teach through descriptions. Sure, you can try to explain what it is you’re doing when you’re cycling, but this isn’t going to be of much help when you’re teaching a kid and they fall into the drain while you’re telling them to “BALANCE! JUST IMAGINE YOU ARE ON A TIGHTROPE AND BALANCE!”.
Undoubtedly there will be people who say that if you just explain better, if you could find the right words to talk to your students, you can teach them to ride bikes. If you happen to believe this … well, I urge you to test this theory yourself. Go find a couple of kids (or adults!) who haven’t yet learned to ride a bike and see if you can teach them — through the power of your explanations alone! — how to cycle without scraping their shins. And if you are successful, be critical with yourself: how much of your success is due to the bike rider figuring it out on their own? And how much of it is due to your verbal instructions?. - Cedric Chin
PURSUIT AS HAPPINESS BY ERNEST HEMINGWAY
A previously unpublished story by Ernest Hemingway was recently found in the archives of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library. The autobiographical account, about fishing off the coast of Cuba, acts as “a strong companion piece” to “The Old Man and the Sea,” according to Hemingway’s grandson. - The New Yorker

DOCK ELLIS & THE LSD NO-NO
On June 12, 1970, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Doc Ellis threw a no-hitter, a feat amazing in it’s own right, but this no-hitter has an added layer making it quite possibly the most impressive performance in the history of baseball.
He did it while tripping on LSD.
SPIKE LEE’S DA 5 BLOODS
From the very opening moments of Spike Lee’s epic new Vietnam chronicle, Da 5 Bloods, it’s clear where the film’s heart lies. The movie, which is streaming on Netflix, opens the way Lee’s films have more often tended to close: with a montage. With an overdose of history and all its back-and-forths, all its cyclical, structural ironies, injustices, and discontents. - K. Austin Collins
